The Rose Ceremony

  • Bright Water Waldorf School | Kintsugi Garden 1414 South Weller Street Seattle, WA, 98144 United States (map)

Join Us for the Rose Ceremony at Bright Water Waldorf School

At Bright Water Waldorf School, we cherish our traditions that foster connection and community. One of our most beloved traditions is the Rose Ceremony, a practice that dates back to the very first Waldorf school.

The Rose Ceremony happens twice a year: on the first and last days of school. In the fall, our oldest students (8th graders) warmly welcome the youngest (1st graders) as they begin their grade school journey. Each first grader is paired with an eighth-grade "buddy," creating a special bond that lasts throughout the year.

At the end of the year, the roles reverse, with first graders presenting a rose to each graduating eighth grader, honoring their accomplishments and marking their transition.

This year, our 1st and 2nd graders will be paired with 7th and 8th graders in mixed-age classes. The entire school community is invited to witness these meaningful ceremonies, enriched with music, speeches, and reflections on the students' journeys.

We look forward to sharing these special moments with you as we celebrate the milestones in our students' lives.
